Since Honne Hotels came into being, sustainability has been an essential part of our philosophy. We believe in progress, and we’re convinced that the hotel sector can and must change, for that reason, our main priorities are achieving sustainability and maximum comfort for our guests.
The hotel sector can generate a hugely positive impact on the environment by implementing measures to reduce the emissions that affect our planet. As part of our contribution, Honne Hotels has opted to install solar panels, creating a renewable energy source to use in our hotels. We also believe that digitalisation is an important part of the process, so we’ve created energy usage sectors within our hotels, meaning real-time control, greater energy efficiency, and a reduction in overall energy usage year after year.
Water is a precious and ever more scarce resource, and we must use it consciously and responsibly. At Honne Hotels, we are committed to reducing our water usage and raising awareness among our guests about the water situation on our island. Every year, we set new targets to reduce water consumption in all departments of our business operation.
We believe that high-quality ingredients are essential for an exceptional dining experience, so the food we serve to our guests is prepared using top-quality produce and a wide variety of local products from the island. In the kitchen, our chefs use fresh, healthy ingredients to prepare nutritionally balanced dishes which will please even the most refined palates. There are plenty of vegan options among our range of menus, and we also provide filtered local water.
We are committed to limiting unnecessary waste by reducing the amount of single-use packaging at our hotels and finding sustainable alternatives that are less damaging to the environment. With this in mind, we provide reusable bottles for our guests and purchase products with less packaging, preferably recyclable and biodegradable. We are also providing more unpackaged, loose products at the buffet restaurant, rather than individual portions or packets.
The best kind of waste is the one that isn’t generated in the first place, so we are optimising our internal processes and encouraging the recycling of every possible piece of waste. We provide recycling points for our guests so they can also take part in this initiative, and every department in the hotel has its recycling point for staff to use. Further measures we have adopted in line with our circular economy philosophy, are to check and reduce food waste during the menu preparation process and to reduce waste produced during the buffet service.
Change begins with oneself, and our actions make the difference. Our team share our vision and is aware of the path we must all follow, conscious that our efforts can bring about change. We feel it’s important to share information about our commitment to sustainability with our guests to make their stay with us even better.
